Revealing the background of his son’s name

In 2019, he kept his alpine ski equipment in a cupboard, but his sports career didn’t stop there. The reason is that Svindal is still active in the world of speed.

In 2021, it is clear that the 40-year-old will become a Porsche driver.

Last year he made his debut at the Porsche Sprint Challenge Scandinavia. Svindal finished the season in 25th position and his best result of the season was 13th at Le Mans.

There is no doubt that he likes to challenge himself.

He and his fiancee, hurdler Amalie Iuel, became parents for the first time in early September.

His son’s name is Storm. The Alpine legend revealed in an interview how the name came about.

– I’ve heard that name before and thought it was pretty cool. I mentioned it to Amalie. Then we each made a list of names we liked, and then Storm was the only name that made the top five. Plus, it feels quite Scandinavian, while also working in English and German, says the 40-year-old.

At least Storm has the genes in her favor if she wants a sporting career in the future. Svindal hopes sports will be an important part of his son’s life.

– I want us to be an active family. Travel, bike, climb mountains, ski in winter, and do a lot of things. “It’s one of the most important things I took with me from my childhood,” said the former alpine star.
