Hergeirsson was annoyed with himself – thinking he should have switched more often
The following day, national team manager Thorir Hergeirsson was highly critical of his own match management after losing to France in the handball World Cup.
Because of the loss, Norway will have to face the Netherlands in Tuesday’s quarterfinals as opposed to the Czech Republic, who will be a much easier opponent.
Hergeirsson said he had lost little sleep after the bitter defeat against France.
– The night passed. When you wake up after a few hours of sleep, you need to deal with the irritation. After all, everyone has feelings after the game, and you think about what you could have done differently. “What we want is for everyone to look in the mirror,” he said at a news conference Monday.
The Icelandic player was not satisfied with his own efforts in the match.
– What bothers me is that we didn’t get more resources off the bench in a short period of time to see what it could add to us. We hung on too long at full-back in the hope and belief that they would eventually get it done. “From experience, they were the best at breaking down France’s defensive game, but we stayed with the same players for too long rather than letting in someone who could add something else,” said Hergeirsson.
