The world’s largest cheese grater has been completed – NRK Innlandet – Local news, TV and radio

– We wanted to draw attention to the planer in the anniversary year, says Kristen Gunstad, general manager at Gudbrandsdal Industrier, Giax.

During the Alpine World Cup in Kvitfjell this weekend, people can see and guess how big the plane is. It’s all just a little gimmick in connection with the anniversary.

Bjørklund begins his adventure

Thor Bjørklund used the principles of a carpenter’s plane when he made a cheese plane in 1905.

Food company Giax has created the world's largest cheese grater.

Now restoration company Giax may have broken that record, and made the world’s largest cheese grater.

90 years ago the cheese grater appeared. Master carpenter Thor Bjørklund of Lillehammer was annoyed by how difficult it was to cut pieces of cheese with a knife. Therefore he created a cheese grater on the same principle as a working tool he knew well, namely a carpenter’s grater.

After that, cheese graters were produced in Lillehammer until 2009. Then the traditional company went bankrupt. The rights were purchased by the Giax restoration company in Ringebu, and are produced there today.

Planner for Guinness

During the World Cup races at Kvitfjell this weekend, many will see planes abandoned in the spectator area. The guessing contest will continue throughout the weekend, but we can reveal that those wishing to try to determine the length will have to exceed 4 meters to get the correct line.

The weight is also relatively large, making it difficult to use for something containing cheese. This miracle weighs 820 kilograms, and Kristen Gunstad revealed that it is between 30 and 40 times larger than a regular cheese grater, and also 17 thousand times heavier than a regular cheese grater.

In order for the record product to be measured in the Guinness Book of Records, a laser must be used to determine its exact size.
