Over several days, eight people took turns making the world’s largest knife during Handelstevnet in Skien.

This is work that is not only very hard, but also very hot.

Because steel must have a temperature of 1000 degrees before it starts to cooperate.

The knife is made the old way.

Baking

– This job is only for strong people. We got very roasted while doing it, says Øystein Køhn at Grenland Knivklubb

– This is a very interesting job, and we hope it will be the world’s largest knife blade registered in the Guinness Book of Records, he said.

He said it was a tough job. After all, the knife blade has to be stuck, and that requires a lot of grinding and hard hitting. This resulted in many water blisters on the hands of the eight workers.

– We’ve been training hard for a long time, and it’s been a lot of fun. But it’s difficult, says Køhn.

Magnified 13 times

In the good traditional way, the knife must be forged. This will be a knife that is 13 times larger than a regular knife. Next to the workshop, they hung a wooden model.

– This shows how big this knife is, says Køhn.

Slira must also be created. It would have to be sewn in the normal way, and that would be a challenge.

“For a while we wondered whether we should take the life of an old cow and skin it,” says Køhn.
