Ruud supports the IOC’s decision regarding Russia: – It would be unfair if they were not allowed
Tennis profile Casper Ruud supports the IOC’s decision to allow Russians and Belarusians to participate in next year’s Olympics in Paris. However, he admitted it would be something special.
On Friday, news broke that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) had decided that Russian and Belarusian athletes could participate in the Olympics in Paris this summer as neutral athletes.
Ruud competes with several Russian profiles on the ATP tour, and the Norwegian was always confident that they would be allowed to participate.
– This is a difficult and sensitive area to enter. I am very open and positive towards their participation in the ATP tour. They played and competed without a flag and openly stated that they were against the war, Ruud said in an interview with Eurosport.
The tennis ace also said that he would consider it unfair if stars such as Daniil Medvedev and Andrej Rublev were not allowed to participate in the Paris Olympics.
– They live in other countries, and they represent themselves more than just the country in many ways. The Olympics are something a little different, and there’s a lot more politics involved. I have to say in many ways that it is unfair that they are not allowed to participate. There are probably a lot of wise people behind that decision, so I’m not against it. The atmosphere will remain special, admitted Ruud.
