The most important events in the country and around the world in 2016

2016 was full of major sporting events, the highlight of which was Euro 2016 football and the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. This was the first game in South America and the second in Latin America. The opening ceremony of the games took place on August 5 and ended on August 21. One of the Olympic heroes is the incomparable Usain Bolt (pictured). Bolt completely dominated the shortest distance sprints, namely 100 and 200 meters, and led the Jamaican team to gold in the 4×100 m relay. Polish players from Rio took home 11 medals, one more than the last three editions of the event. Despite everything, I felt dissatisfied. Athletes, kayakers, sailors, swimmers and volleyball players, both indoors and on the beach, are expected to see better results. The biggest surprise came from Oktawia Nowacka who won bronze in Rio. Instead, the biggest drama and disappointment was Paweł Fajdek’s attitude. This year’s world results table leader, a two-time world champion in the hammer throw, did not make it to the final. The following people returned to the country with gold medals: Magdalena Fularczyk-Kozłowska, Natalia Madaj and weightlifter Anita Włodarczyk. Silver was won by: Piotr Małachowski, Marta Walczykiewicz and Maja Włoszczowska. The following people returned from Rio with bronze medals: Rafał Majka, Monika Michalik, Oktawia Nowacka, Wojciech Nowicki, Beata Mikołajczyk, Karolina Naja, Maria Springwald, Joanna Leszczyńska, Agnieszka Kobus, Monika Ciaciuch. Apart from moments of joy, there was also great shame. Weightlifters Adrian and Tomasz Zieliński were caught doping.
