Vegas Golden Knights won the Stanley Cup for the first time
With a 9-3 win at home to the Florida Panthers in game five, the Vegas Golden Knights could celebrate the club’s first Stanley Cup, NHL playoffs, after winning the final series 4-1 in game.
Mark Stone gave the home side a first-half lead, just before twelve minutes into play. After that, the team from Las Vegas never looked back. Nicolas Roy had the honor of scoring the last goal of the game just over a minute from the end, in a match in which the aforementioned Stone scored a hat-trick.
The Vegas Golden Knights were founded only in 2017, but were already in the club’s first season in the Stanley Cup finals, where they lost 1-4 in a game against the Washington Capitals.
But it’s been a successful year for the Knights, who were able to cheer their home crowd after the victory.
Jonathan Marchessault was named the most valuable player in the playoffs. The Knights player scored 25 points in 22 games, including eight points in five games in the last series.
For the Florida Panthers, the club’s pursuit of the club’s first Stanley Cup trophy continues. They also lost the final in 1996 to the Colorado Avalanche (4-0).
Mats Zuccarello’s team, the Minnesota Wild, were eliminated in the first round of this year’s Stanley Cup playoffs.
