Swedish star disappointed: – Failure
Pål Haugen Lillefosse completed 5.72 meters in the pole vault competition during the Diamond League event in Monaco. Sondre Guttormsen tore again early.
Lillefosse overcame 5.72 at the first attempt, but broke three times at 5.82. It didn’t retain the top spot, although the Norwegian champion touched on his own best season yet. Mortal jumper Lillefosse had a personal best of 5.86 and was seventh, while Sondre Guttormsen finished tenth.
Swedish pole star Armand Duplantis was a big disappointment in Friday’s competition when he stopped at 5.72. He stands above 5.82 and does not top 5.92 or 6.02. American Christopher Nilsen won the competition with 5.92.
“Failure for Duplantis”, wrote Sweden Express.
“His worst position in almost two years – in the last competition before WC”, he wrote Aftonbladetwho also uses the word fail.
– Fourth place doesn’t sound good. I’m not feeling so well today and my back is cramping. I try to be careful and not make too many jumps. I think it’s okay, just “tight” now, he told NRK.
Duplantis has a world record of 6.21. In one month, WC will be held in Budapest. (NRK/NTB)
