The Special Olympics World Summer Games (SOWSG2023) is an international sporting event that provides opportunities for people with intellectual disabilities to compete at any skill level. In 2023, SOWSG2023 will be held in Berlin from June 17 to 25. The NIF, in collaboration with the relevant specialized associations, has issued the squad.
The Norwegian delegation consisted of 44 athletes and 23 managers from ten sports. This is a record breaking squad, never before has Norway sent such a large squad to the World Games. The athletes come from the sports of badminton, bowling, athletics, golf, handball, judo, equestrian, rhythmic gymnastics, swimming and gymnastics.
– We congratulate the athletes and support staff on their choice for the 2023 Special Olympics World Summer Games. We look forward to participating, and wish everyone the best. With the commitment that Norwegian sport has in terms of One sport – equal opportunities, it is good and satisfying to see how more and more specialized confederations are working to support their clubs to promote an environment in sport for people with developmental disabilities, says sports president Berit Kjøll.
The Special Olympics World Games is the world’s largest sporting event for people with developmental disabilities. The Games in Berlin will be the 16th consecutive Games in the Special Olympics World Games. More than 7,000 athletes will compete in 26 different sports. These come from 190 countries.
