The stylish Hyundai Ioniq 5 electric car won the World Car of the Year title, which is awarded annually by automotive journalists on the opening night of the New York Motor Show (to be held from April 15 to 24).
Electric cars also dominated four of the five partial polls announced.
In absolute order, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 was accompanied to the podium by the Ford Mustang Mach-E and Kia EV6. This “technical twin” Ioniqu 5 recently won the European Car of the Year poll.
The winner of the luxury car category was the Mercedes-Benz EQS, and among the most powerful sports cars, the Audi e-tron GT received the highest number of points from voting journalists.
The Hyundai Ioniq 5 ended up winning a total of three awards. In addition to being in absolute first place, it is also declared the best electric car and also the model with the best design.
In this category, the first three places are occupied exclusively by vehicles powered exclusively by electricity. In particular, it is the Audi e-tron GT and the Kiu EV6.
The only partial survey where electric cars didn’t even take the podium this year was in the city car category. In it, the jury placed the Toyota Yaris Cross in first place. The Opel Mokka and Volkswagen Taigun finished behind him.
