On February 27 this year, 90 years have passed since Thor Bjørklund’s hammer received the patent for the world’s first cheese grater. On the occasion of the anniversary, Giax produced a 7.8-meter-long cheese grater in collaboration with Moelven Limtre and Ringsaker Industriservice, and launched it at the Downhill World Cup in Kvitfjell on March 7. At the same time, official measurements were taken with the aim of registering it in the Guinness Book of Records as the world’s largest cheese grater.
NRK has been following the production of the cheese grater, and was also present with the camera team during the official measurements. The feature will be broadcast across Norway on Friday.

Thor Bjørklund works as a cabinet maker. He registered a patent for a cheese grater in 1925, and started production in Lillehammer in 1927.
Since then, Thor Bjrøklund & Sønner AS has produced more than 50 million cheese graters.
In 2009, the company was declared bankrupt, but its management chose to continue operating. In 2010, the plantation was purchased by Gudbrandsdal Industrier, and the business is co-located with other Giax productions in Otta, Lom and Ringebu.
