Riiber wins in “snow soup”: – The worst thing I have ever encountered
– It's almost the hardest thing to stay standing in the flat here. I have never encountered such a skier. It's the worst I've ever encountered.
Conditions were tough at Austria's Seefeld as Jarl Magnus Riiber won his third Seefeld triple on Sunday. The previous two times occurred in 2020 and 2021.
The win was also Riiber's 68th World Cup win, and sixth consecutive World Cup win.
– It will simply be a test of masculinity where the strongest remains the winner, continued Riiber referring to the conditions.
The 26-year-old racer has won all the races at Seefeld. The weekend's race, billed as the highlight of the year for the combined athletes. Riiber was first in cross country and was never threatened on the track.
Austria's almost Easter-like atmosphere makes cross-country track conditions demanding.
Ivar Stuan, sports manager of the combined national teams, described the relationship as “snow soup” in an interview with NRK before the match started.
Jørgen Graabak came out in seventh, but Trønder quickly caught up to those ahead of him and quickly saw a chance for a podium finish. Trønder passes everything on the track without Riiber.
This made it twice as many Norwegians on the podium.
Thursday's temporary ski jump provided the base for cross-country skiing, after Sunday's ski jump was canceled due to high winds.
