This is a stop Nils (81): – I’m drenched

UNDER WATER: Nils Kjell Hordvik (81) and Gerd Lunde Hordvik (79) were in this car on Saturday.

On Saturday, the Bergen area was hit by unannounced torrential rain, which among other things was felt by a husband and wife. Parts of Eastern Norway should also face heavy rainfall in the coming days.

Nils Kjell Hordvik (81) and his wife Gerd Lunde Hordvik (79) had a terrifying experience while they were out walking in Bergen on Saturday afternoon.

– We only drive about 40 kilometers per hour, because the windshield wipers have to be able to remove all the rainwater. Out of nowhere, a waterfall came down from the side of the road almost pulling the car aside, and suddenly the car was under half a meter of water, Nils recalls.

He said the water then started pouring into the car.

– I was drenched – wet to the waist, and it was also very cold. It’s scary and I don’t like to see water pooling in the window. We wondered who to call, because you have to have a raft to get there, said the 81-year-old.

The couple called the fire department, who arrived at the scene and towed the car to dry. Luckily, Nils and Gerd escape unharmed from the incident:

– It was a very unpleasant experience, but it went well when I summed it up afterwards, says Nils.

Bergens Tidende mentioned the incident first.

Penetrate into the dungeons

The rainy weather caused more than just traffic problems, and the 110 Vest was forced to go to several addresses where the water had seeped through.

– I have no idea how many places we are in, but there are many. Some were also waiting to get help, said duty manager Jostein Steinsland-Haugen at West 110 of the NTB center.

He also said that they received a lot of messages about outdoor flooding.

– We couldn’t help here until now. If it’s a city road, you should ask the city government for help, the duty manager said.

FORWARD WITH THE UMBRELLA: Heavy rain is expected over much of southern Norway this weekend.

Steinsland-Haugen of the fire service also made a clear decision.

– When it comes to clogged drains, then you can see if it’s possible to remove the things blocking the water, but you shouldn’t risk it and put yourself in danger.

50 millimeters in no time

– These are the rains we’re having in southern Norway that are developing very strongly over a very small area southwest of Bergen.

This was conveyed by Per Egil Haga at the Meteorological Institute to VG. The heavy rain only covered a few square kilometers, he said.

– The rain also brings thunder. Some areas receive as much as 50 millimeters of rain in a relatively short period of time.

Hurricanes occurring in such a small area are difficult to predict, said Haga. Now he says the worst is over for the people of Bergen.

– It seemed to Bergen that the danger was over. It might rain during the night, but it doesn’t look like it will be too heavy.

NO ADDITIONAL NUMBERS: Concertgoers flee the rain that unexpectedly hit the Feelings festival in Bergen.

The weather also hampered the Feelings festival, where they were forced to temporarily suspend the concert for a time. Read more about this here.

Hulls descended in the east

Meteorologists say that rainy weather with a yellow warning has started in Eastern Norway.

– It has started, but there are some big variations in intensity, said Haga.

The largest amount of rain is yet to arrive, he continued.

– We expect the heaviest rainfall activity to occur after Saturday evening and the evening through Sunday.

Telemark, the Viken region, Vestfold and northwards towards Innlandet can experience heavy rainfall in places, said Haga.

– There may be 40, 50, and even 60 millimeters in places.

The yellow rain warning lasts into Sunday morning.

Meteorologists emphasized that Viken and Innlandet had orange flood warnings through Monday.

Yellow landslide warnings are in effect for most of Eastern Norway.

– Even if there isn’t much rainfall, it won’t be long before a landslide occurs.

In Larvik as in Bergen, there were reports of multiple dungeons experiencing water intrusion on Saturday night:

– Firefighters came out at several addresses following reports of water in the basement due to heavy rain. Urging the public to salvage valuables from the basement and contact the insurance company, wrote Sør-Øst 110 at 19.17.

Joy and fun in the north

– There are some slightly lurking fog clouds over the coastal areas of Troms and Finnmark. If not, they’ll enjoy a few extra days of summer, says Haga.

But here, too, there are consequences.

– There is a forest fire risk in parts of Nordland and also north towards Troms, so this can be a challenge. But the sunny weather looks set to continue for a while.
