On Friday, Pizza Hut and YouTube star Airrack, also known as Eric Decker, set a record for making the world’s largest pizza.
Guinness World Records confirms that CNN.
Giant pizzas
American pizza chain Pizza Hut had plans to bring back its “Big New Yorker” pepperoni special, but wanted to celebrate the news in style.
Then they came up with the idea to try to break the Guinness record for the biggest pizza in the world. They managed it.
On Wednesday they started work on a giant pizza at the Los Angeles Convention Center, and on Friday a nearly 1,300 square foot pizza was completed.
Guinness representatives are on hand to confirm a new record for a pizza, which is almost the size of two handball fields.
630,496 pieces of pepperoni
To make a pizza that big, they first put a few layers of dough. Then they added ketchup before ending with the toppings. Finally, they are fried into pieces.
The shopping list is huge. They used over 6,000 kilograms of dough, over 2,000 kilograms of pizza sauce, nearly 4,000 kilograms of cheese, and a total of 630,496 slices of pepperoni to complete the pizza.
As soon as the pizza record was registered, the pizza slice was donated to a local food center.
Pizza Hut and Airrack beat the last record set in 2012 by a group of Italian chefs. Their pizza measures 1,261 square meters.
