Do you remember how we recently returned full of experiences and positive impressions from drifting in a Škoda car on a frozen lake in Sweden? With the most modern four-wheeler from Škoda we are having real driving pleasure, while a new world record is looming not far away. And today, Škoda Auto, together with the Guinness Book of World Records, officially confirmed it. Mladoboleslavská automobilka is the most recent holder of two world records.
On the frozen lake Stortjärnen, about twenty kilometers from the famous city of Östersund in central Sweden, with an electric Škoda Enyaq RS iV, he broke the record for “Vehicle continuously drifting on ice” and then set another one for “Vehicle longest continuously drifting on ice (in an electric car)”. . At that moment, automotive journalist Richard Meaden got behind the wheel of the most powerful Enyaq, inviting international drifting judge David Kalas to the passenger seat.
In a driving record of 15 minutes 58 seconds, Richard Meaden circled the 188,496 meter drifting circuit 39 times and set a new record in controlled glides of 7,351 kilometers. It thus surpassed the previous record of 6,231 kilometers, which was reached last year in China in a petrol car. Meanwhile, the data obtained shows that during the long drift it reaches a maximum speed of 48.69 km/hour and at the slowest point it travels at a speed of 31.64 km/hour.
Along with the publication of a new world record, the automaker revealed that technicians spent five full days in sub-freezing temperatures while training on different tire combinations. It took a total of 18 hours to achieve the perfect drift. The resulting combination utilized a 600 five-millimeter pole Michelin front tire for winter racing supplied by local chain Däckproffsen and a 255/45-R20 Nokian Hakkapelitta 255/45-R20 rear tire with 300 two-millimeter studs.
Automotive journalist Richard Meaden is no stranger to Škoda’s record-breaking drives. Already in 2011, he set a new speed record according to the Southern California Time Association (SCTA) for a production car with a two-liter forced induction engine, when he reached 365.45 kilometers per hour on the famous salt flats of Bonneville , USA, in Dedicated Škoda Octavia RS.
