Golberg pressed in the final stages and earned a small lead inside the stadium. Klæbo came out with a few meters advantage, and he had good control of goal. The Norwegian duo cheered wildly in the goal area.

The hatching that Golberg secured has probably defined a large part of the competition.

– Johannes makes a smart move towards the end. He calmed down, and then he did a double dance from the last turn that nobody caught him, sprint coach Arild Monsen told NRK.

– Pål has complete control. I have the best job in the world, he added.

Ten years ago, Golberg was WC favorite along with Northug in the team sprint. It then ended with a bang for the debutant during the race at Cavalese.

Can not stand

Sweden were knocked out of the gold medal game ahead of the final substitution. Calle Halfvarsson doesn’t have the power to keep up with Norway, France and Italy.

The Italians took the silver ahead of the French. Sweden comes in 6th place.

The team sprint concluded with Klæbo’s eighth WC title. He has only Petter Northug (13) and Bjørn Dæhlie (9) ahead of him in medal statistics for men.

Klæbo came in second in a three-mile race with a ski change on Friday.

Klæbo took his third straight WC gold in the team sprint. As of 2019, Emil Iversen is with Klæbo, while Erik Valnes joined the team two years ago.

Klæbo (gold) and Golberg (silver) also top the individual sprint in WC this year. Simen Hegstad Krüger won the three-mile ski change early in the championship.

The next cross country competition for men takes place on Wednesday. The next runner will take the free technique as far as 15 kilometers with starting intervals.
