As of Monday 1 May, a snow hazard warning has been issued for most of Eastern Norway, the Meteorological Institute reported on Twitter.
– 5 to 10 centimeters of snow is expected in the areas where it gets the most snow.
In coastal areas, precipitation turns to rain in the first half of the day, according to meteorologists.
– Get ready, drive carefully and on winter tires, is a clear call.
Tiddelibom
So for those who last Tuesday once again said that “this must be the last snow”, then no.
– In Eastern Norway, there were probably a few people who were surprised by the sleet and snow on Monday morning. The temperature should be quite low, so it’s best to be prepared if you drive inland or uphill, says meteorologist Martin Granerød at the Meteorological Institute.
In coastal areas, precipitation is more likely to come as rain, but you should never say never, and a repeat of last week’s snowfall is also unthinkable there.
– This is the limit for that to be the case. The temperature might be a bit higher, but suddenly we end up in the same situation. So we follow how low pressure develops, meteorologists say.
Disappointing message for Norwegians
Hope lives on
On Mr. no tempting meteorologists with somewhat warmer weather than May 8, with temperatures of 16-17 degrees, including in the capital.
However, the promises are firmly rooted in the minds of meteorologists.
– It is permissible to hope, he said.
– As we head into next weekend and the following week, it appears that temperatures may be slightly higher between 15 and 20 degrees again. It’s hard to say whether it worked.
If those expectations were to be converted to percentages, he believed that there was a 60 percent chance of warmer weather, but at the same time there was a 40 percent chance that we would keep the cold out for much longer.
In other words, it is uncertain whether “come May you beautiful gentleman” will become a reality in the near future.
– But the closer we are to summer, the more likely it is for warmer weather. You just have to wait for that to happen, meteorologists try to encourage.
The somewhat tenuous hope for warmer weather is especially true in southern and eastern Norway, but westerners and people in central Norway can also live with the expectation of a bit warmer in May, Granerød believes.
Meteorologists have also sent out yellow warnings for snow to lowlands in Western Norway this weekend.
Spring one day in the north
Even in Northern Norway there are not very good prospects for a warm spring.
However, the residents of Nuvsvåg in Troms and Finnmark got a taste of spring on Friday, when the thermometer suddenly dropped to 14 degrees.
– It was a dry wind that made it relatively warm yesterday. But it’s not that hot today, says Granerød.
In northern Norway, especially northern Nordland and southern Troms, warnings have been issued for snow in high altitude areas this weekend.
Vegtrafikksentralen warns against switching to summer tires as soon as possible.
– There will be up to 10 to 20 centimeters in 24 hours, mostly in the mountains, which is enough to cause challenging driving conditions later this spring, the Meteorological Institute wrote in a hazard warning.
The snow line will be between 100 and 300 meters above sea level.
