Russia remains excluded from European competition until the question is decided on its merits. As for the decision taken by FIFA, we will have to wait.
Seized, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) rejected, on Tuesday, a request by the Russian Football Federation (FUR) to suspend the sanctions imposed by UEFA against Russian clubs and selections due to the Russian invasion.
“The CAS arbitration process continues. The parties have not agreed on an expedited procedure and a trial has not been set yet,” the Lausanne-based court explained, without giving reasons for its decision.
The sporting jurisdiction promised a decision “by the end of the week” on the possible suspension of sanctions imposed by FIFA. On February 28, in a joint statement, UEFA and FIFA decided to exclude the Russian team from international competitions due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, implementing the recommendations of the International Olympic Committee.
The Russian Football Federation responded last week by seizing sporting justice.
