Women’s Soccer World Cup 2023 on NRK and Viaplay – NRK Press – Press release,

The Norway women’s national football team has participated in eight world championships that have been held. In 1995, they went all the way and took WC gold. At the 2019 World Cup in France, there was a comeback after the quarter-final against England. Now a new championship awaits Ada Hegerberg, Caroline Graham Hansen and other Norwegian girls.

You can watch this year’s WC on NRK and Viaplay. Media houses will each broadcast half of the matches on TV, while Viaplay will broadcast the championship in its entirety digitally. NRK matches can also be watched on NRK TV.

– We’re looking forward to the biggest football adventure of the summer – and with Norway a solid outfielder. Whether on TV, radio and online, Norwegians can enjoy soccer, says Espen Olsen Langfeldt, sports editor at NRK.

– The Soccer World Cup will be a big summer investment for us at Viaplay. With championships in other parts of the world, there will be some morning and evening games, but with most of the championships over the Norwegian holidays, we think it will be especially touching for spectators, said Kristian Oma, sports manager at Viaplay Norway.

The road to the finals

32 national teams qualified for the championships in Australia and New Zealand. The US are the defending champions after beating the Netherlands 2-0 at the World Cup in France in 2019.

The group stage consists of eight pools with four teams each, with the best two advancing to the round of 16. A total of 64 matches will be played.

Norway will already be in action in the opening game of the championship. Team Hege Riise will face hosts New Zealand at Eden Park in Auckland on Thursday 20 July at 09.00 Norwegian time. You can see the match on NRK1, NRK TV and Viaplay. The other two teams in the group are Switzerland and World Cup debutants the Philippines.

The new world champion will be selected in the grand final at the Australian Stadium in Sydney on Sunday 20 August at 12.00 Norwegian time.

NRK will have extensive coverage of the championship on TV, online and radio.

32 matches broadcast on one of the NRK TV channels and on NRK TV. The menu includes Norway’s opening game against New Zealand, four round of 16, two quarter-finals, semi-finals and final. If Norway advances to the round of 16, this match will be broadcast on NRK1, NRK TV and Viaplay.

NRK will have studio broadcasts from Marienlyst in Oslo. Malin Jørnholt and Andreas Hagen were the presenters, with Aleksander Schau as the regular on the couch. There will also be other associated experts at the studio, including Ingrid Byrøygard Kvernvolden.

Christian Nilssen, Andreas Statabrun Smith and Patrick Sten Rowlands will comment on the match, with Carl-Erik Torp as expert commentator.

Torp had high expectations for the championship, and was excited to see how the Norwegian team would fare.

– Women’s football is growing rapidly. The coverage and quality of what we saw at EC in the UK last year is at a new high. In WC, we have more of the best teams, but also some weaker national teams from smaller countries. This means that the gap will be large, but I believe that the top level that we will see when the giants meet will be very high. The Norwegian team certainly has surprising quality. “It will be a big disappointment if we don’t progress from the group,” said Torp.

Reporters Eirik Fure and Martine Sørhus will be in New Zealand and Australia and reporting from the championships. Elise Thorsnes will attend as an expert.

It is also possible to follow some WC matches on the NRK Sport radio channel. This applies, inter alia, to Norway’s matches in the group stage, any play-off matches with Norway involved, be it semi-finals or final.

Viaplay shows all matches from all championships. In addition, a number of matches will also be broadcast on TV3, including Norway’s two matches in the group stage, against Switzerland on July 25 and Philippines on July 30 respectively. Selected matches are also shown on the V sports channel.

Viaplay’s studio broadcast took place at the football studio in Hasle in Oslo, and Pål Gordon Nilsen conducted the broadcast. He will be visited by relevant guests throughout the championship, including Maria Thorirsdottir, Jan Åge Fjørtoft and John Arne Riise.

The New Zealand venue is Gunnhild Toldnes, who will lead the way from the inside. With him are football expert Sigrid Heien Hansen and commentator Kasper Wikestad, who will be reporting from the championship. Wikestad and Heien Hansen will be commenting on the Norway game.

– History will be written when the world’s best footballers meet in the World Cup. It will be a championship that will contain all the ingredients of great sporting moments up, down, heroes and scapegoats. World Cup fever is really on its way to Australia and New Zealand with one million tickets sold. WC is the ultimate summer adventure, and I can’t wait to experience it, said Heien Hansen.

He believes it is a revenge-seeking Norwegian team that has a lot to prove on the pitch.

– I hope to see a national team that wants revenge after the failure of last year’s European Championship. Hege Riise and company must involve all players in this project and lay a solid collective defense as the foundation. If they get this, Norway is a national team with a lot of offensive power in world stars like Ada Hegerberg and Caroline Graham Hansen, in addition to Guro Reiten and Frida Maanum, who have delivered fantastic seasons in England.

Petter Veland, Lars Tjærnås, Andreas Toft and Jørgen Klem will also comment during the championship.
