Oral health helps us maintain overall health. At the same time, most oral diseases can be prevented very well. Dentists try to draw attention to the importance of prevention on World Oral Health Day organized by the World Dental Federation (FDI) every year on 20 March. Awareness events were also organized by the Czech Stomatology Chamber in collaboration with partners, and at Olomouc the local Dental Student Association together with the Dental Clinic of the Olomouc University Hospital and the Palack University School of Medicine took over their organization.
“Tooth decay is the most common disease in the world. It is caused by insufficient tooth brushing and the presence of other risk factors, such as a diet rich in sugar. Chronic inflammation of the oral cavity can lead to diabetes, heart disease, lung disease and several diseases. oncologist. Olomouc’s rich program of events begins on Sunday, March 20 at Fortress of knowledge. As part of the Brain Week festival, three lectures by experts from the Dental Clinic will take place here starting at 11:00 am, focusing on proper dental hygiene. The rules of dental and oral health care need to be disseminated, especially among the younger generation. Therefore, dental students will go to primary schools and kindergartens in the Olomouc region on Monday, March 21 and Wednesday, March 23, where they will explain the principles of good oral hygiene to children in a manner which are fun.
There is also a preventive education event for children at the Knowledge Fort which will take place on Tuesday, March 22, from 8 am to 1 pm, directed by tooth Fairy – a project in which the Dental Clinic has been spreading information about dental hygiene rules and prevention of tooth decay in an interesting and entertaining way since 2019. “Just like in our clinic and at the Fort of Knowledge, we will use fairy doors to establish contact with children We will show some of them at the exhibition, and in each of them there will be tasks for children related to dental care. For completing the tasks, the children will receive a gift – white beans, from which they will draw a picture at the end. They can also make masks in the form of teeth. The whole event will be presented by the Tooth Fairy with new costumes for the little participants, “explains the initiator of the MUD Tooth Fairy project. Eva Mišová, Ph.D. MBA with the fact that children can also take samples of hygiene products teeth from the Fort of Knowledge thanks to the presence of representatives of companies that produce dental hygiene products.
On Friday, March 25th, the Smile 022 online conference of dentists, dental hygienists and dental nurses will take place. “The program mainly consists of presentations by graduate students and young doctors, the main topics being current trends in endodontics and failure prevention in dental prosthetic rehabilitation. There will also be performances by students who will briefly present World Oral Health Day and the activities of the Dental Student Association. Czech Republic,” added Iva Voborná.
At the end of the Olomouc event on the occasion of World Oral Health Day, dentists prepared webinars for children from kindergarten and first grade about how dental care is carried out and that children should not be afraid of it. . It will take place on March 31.
World Oral Health Day is observed every year on 20 March. The holiday is organized by the World Dental Federation (FDI) and national dental associations in collaboration with global partners. In our country, supported by the Czech Dental Chamber in collaboration with the Association of Dental Hygienists, the Association of Dental Students, educational programs and important partners involved in oral health education.
