In the end, one of President Miloš Zeman’s bodyguards didn’t have to go to court to answer for an injury. The bodyguard caused it in another car driver accident. The woman had an injury that required hospital treatment. According to Aktuálně.cz, the public prosecutor decided to suspend criminal prosecution.
At exactly seven o’clock in the evening on December 10, 2020, a fire department arrived in the village of Ostřešany in the Pardubice region. They had a car accident that occurred at the intersection of the main road and side road. The accident was caused by a member of the Department of Protection of the President of the Republic. Middle aged woman hit her car with her private car. In April this year, he was accused by the Inspectorate General of the Security Forces of negligence.
However, according to the findings of Aktuálně.cz, JD’s bodyguards (because of the results of the proceedings, we do not include full names, editorial notes) he need not fear punishment. The violation will not be brought to court, the case is closed by the plaintiff himself. “In this regard, we have submitted a motion to suspend the criminal prosecution. The Supervisory Public Prosecutor has accepted the proposal and the prosecution is suspended,” inspector Ivana Nguyenová, Aktuálně.cz, confirmed to Aktuálně.cz.
The plaintiff granted the request for examination at the end of last July. If the case reaches the courtroom, the bodyguard will face a year in prison or a driving ban if he is found guilty. Conditional discharge from prosecution has several important features. The perpetrator must admit, pay for the loss or agree to compensation with the injured party. It also takes into account his criminal past.
Trial period of up to two years
Obviously, this is what happened in the case of the Zeman bodyguard. However, neither the interrogation nor the supervising prosecutor Lukáš Vodička of the Regional Public Prosecutor’s Office in Hradec Králové commented on the details. “I will not comment on this matter at this time,” Vodička told Aktuálně.cz. According to Aktuálně.cz, the reason for the detention of the two criminal authorities was the fact that they did not have confirmation of sending the decision from the injured woman.
In a case similar to that of JD, a probationary period of six months to two years is stipulated, during which the person concerned may not commit any offence. Otherwise, the prosecution will start again. The public prosecutor may also impose certain restrictions or obligations on the offender to help him truly live a decent life during the probationary period.
Before the inspectorate charged Captain JD, he checked him for severe bodily injuries. Under this stricter qualification, misconduct is punishable by up to four years in prison. Even during the investigation, however, the inspectorate judged the facts more lightly. Before the prosecution began, there were other changes. The case was initially handled by the Inspectorate General of Security Forces in Hradec Králové, but the case was settled elsewhere.

“The Inspectorate General of Security Forces is a police authority with national competence, and the decision to ‘order’ this case to the Inspectorate General of Security Forces, Zlin Department, was made by the inspectorate, for organizational reasons,” the change explains. investigator.

“At the scene, our crew treated a middle-aged woman. She suffered minor injuries to her upper body and was taken to Pardubice Hospital for final treatment,” Aleš Malý, spokesman for the Pardubice ambulance, told Aktuálně.cz earlier. It is not clear if the woman should also be hospitalized after the injury. The spokesperson did not answer this question.
Captain JD has served in the Office of the Protection of the President of the Republic since March 2013, when Miloš Zeman took office after winning the election. He passed the selection procedure. However, he worked with Zeman through a private agency in the election campaign. As a rule, members with previous experience with the police join the unit, the procedure as in the case of JD is rather extraordinary.
JD served in the Protected Persons Department. In practice, this means he is among three dozen police officers overseeing the president’s personal security. The whole department consists of a total of 200 people. The outcome of the criminal proceedings does not affect subsequent work in the service. Among other things, Captain JD has been successfully involved in Thai boxing in the past. In the first decade after 2000, he was several times the champion of the republic.
