Conservative leader Erna Solberg will serve on the board of Global Citizens of America and will play in a team with, among others, Billie Eilish, Ed Sheeran, Demi Lovato, Elton John, Lorde and Måneskin.

– I said yes to this position because Global Citizen is probably the organization in the world that has the greatest potential to mobilize people, especially young people around the world, to fight poverty and now United Nations sustainability goalsSolberg told VG.

He says that the conscious use of celebrities is an important tool.

– They use celebrities who have millions of followers on social media; who used this platform to talk about that we must stand together to eradicate poverty, reduce emissions, and ensure education for all.

As Prime Minister, Erna Solberg held several international positions to promote sustainability goals.

He stressed that the council’s work was a continuation of his international engagement and would be carried out in conjunction with his role as party leader and parliamentary leader for the Conservative Party.

– The world is facing great challenges that can only be solved through cooperation between countries and people. Through Global Citizen, I hope to inspire authorities, businesses and people to work so that more children can go to school and eradicate extreme poverty, said Solberg.

– There is a long list of celebrities who work for Global Citizen. Will you meet any of them?

– Yes, I might meet some of them. We will hold both digital and physical meetings and events. My role will be to contribute to the political side; to focus on what can actually be achieved and contribute to political pressure on key political actors who can actually do something to reduce poverty.

– You said to VG in February that you want to invest politically in Norway, not internationally. Can this be interpreted as a signal otherwise?

– No. I also said that I am open to taking an international position. It is an extension of my international commitment that allows me to push for the issues I have always fought for.

In 2018, Global Citizen honored her for the work she has done for girls’ right to education and for the United Nations to achieve its sustainability goals.

– Education is the most important thing we can do to develop the world of tomorrow and to achieve sustainability goals. This is because children, when they are educated, are better able to control their own lives, says Solberg.
