The animal was apparently injured on Saturday, and later in the day the wolf was found by mushroom pickers who called the police. The animal lay motionless in a ditch between the villages of Horní Blatná and Potůčky. According to Karel Makoná, head of the animal rescue station in Pilsen, he had apparently been hit by a car.
“I was astonished when someone knocked down such an animal and ran away. Luckily, the mushroom picker reacted well and called the police. The wolf was not aggressive at all and was kind, maybe it hit its head and got out.” explained Makoň Lightning.
Members of the Drosera animal rescue station from Sokolovsk came directly to where the wolf was. “Upon our arrival we loaded him up and took him to the Dvory Veterinary Clinic for a thorough vet check. He was given absolutely impeccable care there. After check up nothing serious was found.” they wrote on social networks.
They added that the animal was not yet able to stand on its hind legs. They attributed this to possibly swelling pressing on the spinal cord. However, on Sunday evening, caretakers reported on social networks that the wolf was undergoing another check. He will undergo an orthopedic examination and hip surgery. After that, the animal’s health will only increase and the wolf can be released back into the wild. Moreover, according to his teeth, it was only a few months old.
At the same time, great solidarity actions were launched to save these creatures. “All day long we receive messages asking about his health. Thank you so much for your concern. Keep your finger up for him,” they provide and attach links to collections where anyone can support animal care. For now, he was said to just lie down and rest.
Makoň told Blesk on Saturday that the animal may migrate, otherwise it may avoid roads and possibly humans. “It should also be added that these are non-conflict and highly intelligent creatures, avoiding humans,” he concluded by saying that his further fate would be decided by doctors and the state.
