“Bottle thrower and me. Side by side.”

This is how Rohit Saggi opened his Facebook post on Friday.

After the match between Stabæk and Vålerenga on day 2 of Pentecost, the highest referee got a bottle to the head.

It was quickly discovered that it was someone under the legal age who had thrown the bottle. Saggi suffered a concussion as a result of the incident.

The referee wrote that he spoke to the minor’s parent and agreed to take the person with him to the match he would officiate between Fredrikstad and Vikings in the cup.

Saggi wrote that it concludes with “a long ride together with lots of good conversations”. The person is permitted to participate in match preparation with the referee and to listen to the referee’s communications throughout the game.

“I wanted to inspire, and I think I succeeded,” wrote Saggi.

“We ruled out the entire bottle incident throughout the day. We focus on the road ahead. It feels right and good.” wrote Saggi in conclusion, and shared a photo of himself and the person who threw the bottle.

Saggi told VG that he thought it was a positive experience for both of them.

– I learned a lot and I think the person in question did the same, said Saggi and believed there was nothing more to explain beyond what was in the post.

Referees said he was fit and ready after his injury, and returned to the field in the big game between Brann and Lillestrøm on Sunday.
