Take a look at the image below. It shows the temperature gauge on the rental car that Camilla Vistnes and her family took to Death Valley on Saturday.

134 degrees fahrenheit – that’s 56.6667 degrees celsius.

Not just hot. It’s a hot record. The hottest thing ever measured anywhere in the world is Death Valley to be exact. The year is 1913 and the temperature is measured at 56.7 degrees Celsius, one hair above a rental car’s measurement in 2023.

HOT HOT HOT: In 1913 some unfortunate soul measured 143.1 degrees fahrenheit in Death Valley. 110 years later, Camilla Vistnes’ rental car is about the same size.

– I was a little scared when I saw how many degrees: If the car breaks down, what do we do? There’s no point lying in the shade under the car, because it’s too hot there, Vistnes said by phone to VG.

He, his partner, and their two children are still on tour in the US.

There are short visits to the open air. The heat that hit them made them pulse high and have difficulty breathing, he said.

– As if someone was holding a giant hairdryer at us. It was so special, and great that we were there that day.

Previously, the valley in the Mojave Desert, in southern California, was expected to experience a thaw over the weekend.

The national weather service sent out a warning of “life-threatening heat” on Saturday.

– This will cause an extreme risk of heat-related illness for anyone who is exposed to heat for a long time, he said in announcement.

Vistnes said they heard the same warning.

– It is recommended not to go out after 10 am.

– What do you think of those who complain heat wave in Europewhich is at least 13 degrees colder than what you’re experiencing?

– We didn’t laugh at it at all. Forty degrees is also too hot. People need to be careful and take care of themselves and each other. I don’t think everyone knows enough about what can happen to the body when it gets very hot, says Vistnes.

Phew: Maja (17) and Theo (15) are at the lowest point in Death Valley, as well as the hottest in the world.

On Saturday, the National Weather Service measured 51.67 degrees in the area. The family car from Kleppe found a much warmer place than that.

– There is a place called “Artists’ Way”, a place where the mountains are very colorful. Start Wars number four was filmed here, Vistnes said.

By the time VG spoke to him, his family had moved to a cooler place.

– Now we are in Mammoth Lakes, a ski resort. Actually there is still snow on the slopes here, even though the temperature is close to 30 degrees.

NOTICE: “This is a climate crisis” and “Happy Death Day”, said the man’s sign.
