Hot record – Surprised scientists: – Mysterious

The previous month brought record hot temperatures across the world. September beat the previous September record by half a degree, which was the largest temperature spike ever. The jump was so powerful that scientists had difficulty explaining it all.

– Mysterious, wrote American newspapers Washington Post.

The Avisa article came after another article analysis confirmed the harsh September temperatures.

In addition, analysis from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said September was the warmest month in almost two centuries of observation.

– It’s very difficult to give a good, informed answer as to why this is happening – perhaps for the first time, Gavin Schmidt, director of NASA’s Goddard Institute for Space Studies, told the Washington Post.

New hot record: – Completely bananas

Climate scientist Zeke Hausfather, who previously called September’s heat “literally went bananas,” wrote in a commentary New York time Friday he worries this may be evidence that global warming is accelerating.

– Although many experts are wary of admitting this, there is increasing evidence that global warming has accelerated in the last 15 years rather than proceeding gradually and steadily.

He further wrote that this faster temperature rise may mean that the impacts of climate change, such as extreme heat waves, forest fires and large amounts of rainfall, will become more serious in the years to come.

However, some researchers believe that we should be careful not to draw too many conclusions based on this sudden increase in temperature.

– While it is important to measure and monitor year-to-year fluctuations, we should not forget that climate change is a slow change over decades, wrote Govindasamy Bala, professor at the Indian Institute of Science, to the Washington Post.
