On Sunday afternoon, they still didn't know which of them had the biggest giant pumpkin.
In two different gardens in Kristiansand, there are perhaps the largest and second largest pumpkins in Norway.
The local battle between Trine Johansen and Philip Lyding for the biggest pumpkin also turned into a national fight.
– More than I thought
The answer will come this Sunday.
First, Trine Johansen's flasks in Kongsgård were measured and weighed.
The pumpkin weighs 228 kilograms
– It's more than I thought. I am very satisfied, he said.
The previous Norwegian pumpkin record was 188 kilograms.
I could enjoy the Norwegian record for maybe an hour. Because I think Philip's pumpkin might be heavier.
Strong friend
Then the journey climbs some hills to Gimlekollen, and Philip Lyding park.
With the kind help of friends and tough neighbors, his giant pumpkin was carried through the park to a green tractor to be weighed.
The weight stopped at 318 kilograms.
– This is an adult problem, I think. “It's really fun,” said the new record holder from Norway.
And he who loses in the competition accepts everything in good spirits.
– Do I look bored? Johansen asked with a smile.
– This is very fun. 318 kilograms! That's cool, really cool. he added.
– He's better than me at growing pumpkins, simply put, Johansen admits as he helps him set up the pumpkins on the trailer.
Lyding said that the pumpkin's circumference grew at most 10 centimeters every day.
– It's a great seed, but it also gets a lot of nutrients and a lot of water, and we also have hot summers, Lyding said.
Halloween art
Pumpkins will now be kept indoors until Halloween. Then local artists will carve them.
– It's a beast. It's great that my pumpkin is the biggest in Norway. But that's not the point. The goal is just to see how big it can get. And beautiful summers, lots of fertilizer and lots of water really help, Lyding said
– Now there will be waffles and coffee for everyone who helped carry and weigh, he shouted to all the helpers.
