It starts with small seeds sown in April. Now the measuring tape is too small for the pumpkin.
– This tape measure is three meters long and a few centimeters less wide, so it is most likely the largest in the country, said the pumpkin’s owner, Philip Lyding.
He believes the pumpkin, which was just a seed a few months ago, now weighs several hundred kilograms.
– The measurements I made show that the pumpkin weighs between 215 and 230 kilograms, and the current Norwegian record is 188 kilograms, says a satisfied Lyding.
Good genes
The reason why pumpkins grow so quickly is, in part, because of good genes.
– It’s a great seed, but it also gets a lot of nutrients and a lot of water, and we also have hot summers, Lyding said
At most, he explained, the pumpkin grows 10 centimeters a day. And there’s also some drama.
– Pumpkins broke early in the season and after a while I was afraid that rot would get into them. Luckily, the pumpkin healed itself, and turned out very well, said the proud pumpkin owner.
Intense competition
Elsewhere in the city there is a pumpkin that could also break the Norwegian record.
– About three meters, I measured my pumpkin, says Trine Johansen happily.
He hopes that his fruit can bring home the biggest title.
But Lyding was confident in his case.
– I will win.
On Sunday, the pumpkins will be harvested and weighed, so it is likely that the country’s largest pumpkin will be found in Kristiansand.
You can read who won on the NRK Sørlandet site on Sunday.
