– It is important to inform that the world is moving forward

“The World’s Best News” delivers progress and positive news in a dark media landscape.

CHANGING THE NEWS PICTURE. “World’s best news” presents positive news through its digital newspaper.

The information campaign “The world’s best news” aims to direct attention to the positive steps that are taking place in the world. Now the campaign wants to test the impact of happy news through digital experiments. In the period 17 to 24 September, we will explore how good news can influence the way of thinking and action patterns of Norwegian society.

A more nuanced picture of the news

UiB student Kristoffer Klepp Moe (22) is deputy chairman of SAIH Bergen, one of the campaign’s partner organizations. He points out that “World’s Best News” helps provide nuance to the news picture.

– The news picture can be one-sided and there is a lot of negative news. This doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t focus on these things, but it’s important to realize that the world is moving forward, even if it doesn’t seem that way at the moment, he said.

Participants in this project will receive positive news on Facebook Messenger, and answer new questions every day. The campaign will then compile all the results and publish the findings on its website, according to Moe.

This Sampol student went on to talk about what all-digital experiments can produce:

– The goal is to spread positive news, and find out if reading it makes you happier and more positive.

Hope creates motivation

Moe believes that the nuances of knowledge in “The World’s Best News” can help create hope, and that hope creates motivation for further action.

He spoke about some of the positive developments in the world today:

– The cases in the newspapers vary greatly. For example, the proportion of people living in extreme poverty has fallen by 68 percent since 1990. Endangered sea turtles are returning to nesting, China is rejecting single-use plastics, and India wants to green its railways.

– It’s about changing the picture you have of the world going to hell, and finding out how positive news can change the way you think and talk about developments in the world, says Moe.
