Last Friday, Samantha Miller lost her life when she was hit by a drunk driver in Folly Beach in the US state of South Carolina.
Her husband Aric Hutchinson was seriously injured in the same collision.
The couple had just married a few hours earlier, and were on their way home from a wedding reception when they were hit from behind by a car traveling at high speed, wrote CNN.
“Aric lost the love of his life,” wrote his mother, Anette Hutchinson.
Drove in 40 zones
Just five hours after the husband and wife exchanged “I do” words to one another, Samantha Miller was killed in the crash.
The couple was driven home from the wedding reception in a golf cart. Several family members of the couple were also in the vehicle, who escorted the couple.
Driving wrong – shot
Traditionally, the golf cart pulls the can behind it, and a “just married” sign is placed on the vehicle.
The car was driving on the road with a speed limit of 40 kilometers per hour, which is legal in South Carolina, wrote CNN.
25 years charged
Then the wedding night turned into a nightmare. Behind them came a car traveling at over 100 kilometers per hour, according to police.
In the violent crash, the golf cart was thrown dozens of meters across the road.
Throwing millions out of car windows
Miller was killed. Her husband and two of his family members were all seriously injured.
A 25-year-old woman is now being charged with negligent homicide and three counts of grievous bodily harm. According to police, the woman suspect was suspected of driving drunk.
Collected four million
On Sunday, just two days after the accident, Aric Hutchinson’s mother, Anette, held a fundraiser at Gofundme site.
“I got Aric’s wedding ring in a plastic bag at the hospital, five hours after Samantha gave it to him and they said their wedding vows. Aric has lost the love of his life,” his mother wrote.
13 year old compliment: Saved a classmate
He also wrote that his son received several fractures, as well as a brain injury, in the crash.
“His rehabilitation will take a long time,” the mother wrote.
At the time of writing, more than $380,000 – more than four million kroner – had been raised. The money will be used for Samantha’s funeral, as well as to cover medical expenses for her husband Aric and his two family members.
