Vingegaard by speed classification – may have decided the Tour
There’s been a lot of excitement about the overall canon in the speed stage of the Tour de France, and it was there that Jonas Vingegaard proved to excel in a fight against Tadej Pogacar.
– This is outclassing, says NRK commentator Ole Kristian Stoltenberg.
The Dane took the lead a full minute after climbing at the third crossing point on the 22.4 kilometer long stage. In the end the gap was as much as 1.38, and Vingegaard increased his advantage in summary to 1.48.
– I’m very happy for the win, and proud, because it’s my first tempo victory in the Tour de France, Vingegaard said in the victory interview.
– This was decided as best he could, said Stoltenberg.
A new mountain stage awaits tomorrow.
– This has not been completed. Especially if it rains tomorrow. Only the two most difficult stages remain, so anything can happen. Tomorrow is my day, Pogacar said in an interview that aired on TV 2.
It was a very good day for Jumbo-Visma, as Wout van Aert took third place, but trailed a full 2.51 behind the two guns.
– We keep the best tactics for Jonas. Maybe we attack, because attacking can be the best defense, the team’s sporting director Frans Maassen told NRK.
