England’s Jake Wightman set his best of the year in the WC final in July, but on Friday Ingebrigtsen brought that time down to 18 hundredths.
– It’s as important as you do it, and when I feel like I’ve had a bit of a blowout on Eugene, it’s nice to know I’ve run the fastest. I was last year, and hopefully this year will be me too. It was not a desire for revenge, but I wanted to do better than I have done before, Ingebrigtsen told NRK.
He is looking to lower his time even further in the upcoming season.
– Until next year, there will be more opportunities with just one championship. Then you can run as much as you want, so we can look forward to it, said the Norwegian.
Strong opponent
Ingebrigtsen has made the 1,500 meters her favorite distance, and after picking up a silver medal during the World Championships in the US earlier this summer, she hit back hard when she smashed the court at the Munich European Championships just over a week ago.
In Switzerland he continued to put in good form on a tough pitch. Kenyan duo Timothy Cheruiyot and Abel Kipsang are both running the competition. Cheruiyot was Ingebrigtsen’s biggest rival last season.
European Championship silver winner Jake Heyward of Great Britain was also on the court.
– One of the best of all time
Ingebrigtsen was early between the fronts of the field, and halfway through he took the lead. He increased his speed and gained several yards to the competitors. Victory is never threatened.
Kipsang took second place, while Stewart McSweyn from Australia was third. McSweyn paid tribute to his Norwegian opponent after the race.
– He is one of the best of all time. It’s a pleasure to be part of the races he’s in, and he’s one of the nicest people off the track, said the Australian.
