He usually plays in center defense for Troms in the Eliteserien. Now Jostein Gundersen will have to spend a few weeks on the sidelines.
Last week, during a training session with a team from the north, things got really bad for the strong centre-back.
– There was an internal game on Thursday, before we were supposed to have four days off. I was going to put pressure on his teammate but when he passed me he lifted his elbow and it literally “KO” in my face. Both were lying down, he was injured in the elbow and I was injured in the face, Gundersen told Dagbladet about the incident.
in Tromso mention the problem first.
Excruciating pain
The terrible injury forced Gundersen to go to the dressing room with the team’s physiotherapist. He suspected a facial fracture, and he was right.
The bone in his right eye was broken. Gundersen immediately went to the doctor, before he was immediately referred to the hospital. The pain is excruciating, the 26-year-old said.
– They’re quite extreme. Within half an hour of that happening, I did something crazy. Then they quickly took me to the doctor and hospital, and then I got painkillers and then it got better. But it’s an excruciating, disgusting pain when you feel your face broken, she says of the pain.
Gundersen went on to recount the thoughts that ran through his head when the situation occurred on the training pitch.
– Right when I got it (ed. note. elbow strike) it was disgusting, because it hurts so much and you don’t have the full picture yourself. So I don’t fully understand to what extent and it’s uncomfortable. It was the worst, he said.
Died in training
Lucky
On Monday morning, Gundersen performed a successful operation at the hospital in Troms. Doctors have advised that he should spend six weeks on the sidelines before he can play again.
– I can train, but there is a risk of hitting my head which I have to avoid. Now that I’ve operated on titanium plates (note ed. metal plates) on my face, they must be allowed to heal quietly before I can engage in contact training, he said.
After speaking with the doctor, Gundersen could say he was lucky. It could be much worse.
– The doctor said it was good (ed. pay attention to the rest) no further down. Because it could be a much bigger intervention and consequence for me. It’s a relatively minor intervention and it’s easy to get things done.
The centre-back is not afraid the injury will affect his playing style on his return to the football field.
– I don’t really think so. I’ve got the armor plate in there, so I’m even sturdier up front, Gundersen said and chuckled.
Tromso Gundersen is currently ninth in the Eliteserien. The stopper has played a total of 22 games this season and has scored twice.
