Record the hunt

These mittens are distributed from house to house, where each knitter can contribute their expert knowledge.

– I will knit as much as possible in a week before passing it on to the next person, says Kristin Hoem.

It takes 15 minutes to knit one round, and for now, they have the world's largest purl table to show for it.

Heyday

The name Selbu is often associated with selbu gloves, and the record gloves will be a memory of past glory days for local people, said Solveig Borseth.

– In the past, every free moment was spent on knitting, and this became an important side job for many people, says Solveig Evjemo.

Millions of sweaters and mittens were shipped from Selbu, which old knitters fondly remember.

– If it weren't for self-stitching during the war, I don't think we would have survived. I remember we sat in the evenings, having fun together and knitting, says Solveig Evjemo.
