To the historic World Cup final
Anders Mol and Christian Sørum are set for a historic World Cup final in beach volleyball, having beaten Brazilian duo André and George in straight sets.
– This is the title we’ve always wanted. In 2009 we saw the World Cup in Stavanger, that’s when the dream started. “Standing here today is a dream, and it’s a pleasure to play in front of an audience again,” Anders Mol said after the semi-final win.
In the first set, Norway controlled the game well, and took home with the numbers 21-14.
In the second set, it was much smoother, and Brazil had a much bigger lead than the first. But thanks to a good game, and a good block from Norway, Norway finally won the second set 21-18.
Mol and Sørum thus became the first Norwegian pair to reach a World Cup final in beach volleyball. The final was played on Sunday, and World Cup gold is what’s missing in the pair’s collection.
They won the semifinals in front of a few Norwegian spectators in the stands in Rome.
– It’s great with so many Norwegian fans and the audience cheering for us. “We were tired, but you made us play much better,” Christian Sørum said after the game.
In the final, another Brazilian pair awaited Renato and Vitor Felipe, who beat Americans Chaim Schalk and Theodore Brunner the previous Saturday.
