Saturday 17 June marked the start of SOWSG in Berlin with an opening ceremony. The event is the world’s largest sporting event for people with developmental disabilities. 7,000 athletes from 190 countries will compete in Berlin until June 25.

Norwegian duo Madcon have composed the official song for the championships, and they also performed at the opening ceremony. Madcon took plenty of time to greet the Norwegian squad before they entered the stadium.
– The opening ceremony was great, I’m a big fan of Madcon. It’s great to be here, I’ve got a lot of experience, said Eirik Vagstad Brunstad, who will take part in the swim.
Started
The Norwegian delegation consists of 43 athletes who will compete in ten different sports. The Norwegian squad have spent several days in the host city of Norderstädt, where a cultural and sporting program awaits them. Now it’s finally time for the competition.
– It might be a little surprising at first, but now they’ve started to enjoy the experience. They practiced and competed, and soon the seriousness died down. We’re looking forward to getting started, said Berg.
Lots of sports
Over the next seven days, there will be competitions in 26 different sports. Norway participates in badminton, bowling, athletics, golf, handball, judo, horseback riding, rhythmic gymnastics, swimming and gymnastics.
