It must be the world’s worst kept secret that Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham is Liverpool’s top transfer target for the summer, and during an interview with JOE, Trent Alexander-Arnold was asked about his national team-mates.
– He is an excellent player, especially considering his young age, answered Alexander-Arnold, while struggling to keep his mask.
– I think there is no limit to how good he can be. He can achieve what he wants. He has everything he needs to do it,” added the Scouser.
– He is one of those players you want to see play. He is an extraordinary player, and an extraordinary person.
When reporters suggested that Bellingham would be a good person to have in the Liverpool squad, Alexander-Arnold laughed and replied:
– I think so, yes.
In another interview, with Liverpool echo, Alexander-Arnold talks about what it’s like to be part of the group of captains at the club. A role he got ahead of last season, after Georginio Wijnaldum left the club.
Jordan Henderson, James Milner, Virgil van Dijk, Alisson Becker and Andy Robertson are the other players in the captain’s group.
– I like responsibility. I think I’ve always been one of the players on the team with the strongest competitive instincts, and I think that rubbed off on the other players. People complete the captain’s duties in different ways. I believe I am someone who can motivate others through what I do on the pitch. I like to be a leader who leads the way. It means a lot that the other players want me in the group. They know who the leaders are, and who they want to motivate them. So it’s an honor, and a big responsibility, said Alexander Arnold.
Full focus on the top four
After a disappointing season, Liverpool are fighting tooth and nail for a top four spot, and had an uphill task to come back 2-5 in the second leg against Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu in the last 16 of the Champions League. Alexander-Arnold still believes that there are a lot of positive things going on at the club.
– There are many happy things. We’ve signed a number of young players, who are in their early 20s, so we have a good mix of young and experienced players. We have players who come from the academy, like Stefan Bajcetic, who are having an outstanding season. The club is building a new stand, so there’s a lot to be proud of. The best thing that can happen now is for us to be in the top four, so we can achieve what we want to achieve in the future.
There is no doubt that a number of injuries have affected Liverpool’s results this season. The likes of Ibrahima Konate, Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip, Andy Robertson, Roberto Firmino, Naby Keita, Digo Jota, Thiago Alcantara and Luis Diaz have all been out for shorter or longer spells.
– You don’t want to lose players through injury, but things like that happen in football. It’s part of the game, so you can’t use that as an excuse. We have a good enough squad to win games and you know we need the whole squad for one season. It’s been an intense year, with WC besides games for the club team. This will cause damage and various problems for us. Now we just have to give everything to reach the top four, concluded the Liverpool right-back.
