A German magazine linked to the AfD accused Poland of being responsible for the outbreak of World War II

Arkadiusz Mularczyk, a PiS lawmaker and deputy head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, plays an important role in the group. He is chairman of the Polish delegation and former deputy chairman of the entire assembly. At the same time, he struggled to obtain war reparations from Germany, and on September 1 last year presented a report on Polish losses.

And here another paradox occurs, as “COMPACT-Geschichte” carries out a sharp narrative that belittles the meaning of reparations. “The government in Warsaw demanded $1.3 trillion in war reparations from Germany: a huge sum, many times exceeding the federal budget. “This calculation completely ignores the fact that after World War II, Poland had controlled a fifth of the territory of the German Reich since 1937, including important coal and industrial areas in Upper Silesia,” the newspaper said.

“We will investigate it”

– We will analyze this publication – promises Arkadiusz Mularczyk. – We will review what is presented there and determine whether this newspaper is truly affiliated with the AfD. Then we will ask AfD politicians to respond, he added.

Norbert Kleinwächter, deputy chairman of the AfD club in the Bundestag and member of the delegation of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, explained to “Rzeczpospolita” that the magazine “Compact” “has nothing to do with the AfD, nor does it belong to the party and does not act on its behalf.” – Publisher Jürgen Elsasser was also not a party member, but he tried to influence some party members. His views are not in line with those of the AfD, Kleinwächter stressed and added that he regretted the publication.

However, information published in the German media indicates that “COMPACT” and its historically oriented version “COMPACT-Geschichte” are not officially associated with the party, but openly support it. Editor-in-chief Jürgen Elsasser has appeared many times at AfD events, and AfD politicians frequently speak at the magazine. Moreover, the circulation of rumors about Poland accusing the outbreak of World War II was accompanied by a recording on YouTube in which one of the interlocutors was an AfD politician.

Should PiS be in the same group as such a party? – The conservative group consists of 112 members of parliament from various countries. There are only five political groups in the entire assembly, and a total of 47 member states. It's difficult to control all the views and positions, Mularczyk said.
