Alpine slopes in Sölden closed due to weather – NRK Sport – Sports news, results and broadcast schedules

The alpine slopes of Sölden are closed due to the weather

The International Ski Federation (FIS) closed the race track in Sölden one day before the opening of the Alpine World Cup. Vertilhøva is threatening to slide this weekend.

– The Norwegian women’s team had climbed the Rettenbach glacier on Friday, and the training track was ready, but then a message popped up about the route being closed, sports manager Claus Ryste told NTB.

The speed team with Ragnhild Mowinckel in the lead did some speed drills before closing. The men’s team had carried out field training as scheduled on Friday morning.

The weather forecast for Sölden on Saturday, when the ladies will be in action, isn’t that great. There is a great risk of precipitation, and later on the wind will also increase.

The Alpine World Cup kicked off with the women’s giant slalom race at 10am with the second round three hours later.

In a press release Friday morning, FIS wrote that they were closing the race track to maintain the best possible conditions. As a result, no one can practice or ski on the trails before the women’s giant slalom.

Alpine lodge openings were canceled in 2017 and 2018.

– It would be hard not to start. But we run outdoor sports and have to make sure that’s the case. “It has to be safe for athletes, and we hope it’s good enough for that,” he said.

The men started on Sunday with the first round at 10am. The weather is expected to be sunny, but the wind is expected to be strong.
