Casper Ruud continues at US Open: – Good at the most important

The match in New York on Wednesday ended 7-6, 4-6, 4-6, 4-6.

– I may not have played the best match of my career today, but I played well when it was most important and managed to keep the break I got in the second, third and fourth sets. So I’m very happy with that. But I feel there is still room for improvement and I haven’t shown my highest level yet,” Ruud told NTB.

The 25-year-old Dutch opponent is ranked 117th in the world, 110 places behind 23-year-old Ruud.

Play smart

– He plays smart, and he has energy. It’s a fantastic opponent he’s faced, which really puts him under heavy pressure, ivind Sørvald, who is in charge of technique and analysis at Team Ruud, told Eurosport.

– It’s a good win, and I’m afraid for this player, because he also played a very good first-half match, continued Sørvald.

american fight

America’s Tommy Paul waited in the third round, who beat compatriot Sebastian Korda in an even-numbered second-round match in five sets. Paul is currently ranked 34th in the world.

Casper Ruud has never gone further than the third round at the US Open. In 2020 he lost to Matteo Berrettini.

In the first round of this year’s tournament in New York, Ruud was not at his best against Briton Kyle Edmund. Ruud won 3-0 in sets, but provided eight break points and lost serve on two occasions.

The Norwegian has shown progress on hard courts. This year he was in the final in Miami and in the semifinals in Montreal, both Masters 1000 tournaments (second highest tier).
