Elizabeth II died. The queen’s health deteriorated on Wednesday

Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II died Thursday at the age of 96. He has been on the throne from 1952 – longer than any monarch in the country’s history. The throne was automatically taken over by his eldest son, Prince Charles.

Elizabeth began her public service at the age of 14, appearing on a BBC radio show meant to support children being evacuated overseas due to war. At the end of the war, she became more directly involved in the war effort, serving in the Women’s Auxiliary Territory Service, where she trained as a truck driver and mechanic.

Elizabeth II’s health worsened on Wednesday night, with Buckingham Palace announcing that she was canceling a scheduled virtual meeting with members of the Advisory Council due to a doctor’s recommendation to rest. Late Thursday afternoon, it was reported that the Queen was under medical care as they were concerned about her health.

On Thursday evening, Buckingham Palace announced that Queen Elizabeth had passed away “peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon.”
