Eliud Kipchoge runs to world record at Berlin Marathon

Kipchoge himself has an old record of 2.01.39 set in Berlin four years ago in 2018.

Kipchoge Kenya is also the reigning Olympic long-distance champion from Tokyo in 2021. He was also the Olympic champion in the marathon in Rio de Janeiro in 2016.

Kipchoge is also a two-time world champion in the 5,000 meters, in Paris in 2003 and in Osaka in 2007.

Teammate Mark Cohir was closest to Kipchoge in Berlin on Sunday, but was 4.49 minutes away.

Four

Eliud Kipchoge has four wins in the Berlin marathon (2015, 2017, 2018 and 2022). This is the same number as Haile Gebrselassie from Ethiopia.

Eliud Kipchoge has won 15 and 17 marathons in which he has participated.

After Sunday’s halfway race, he looked set to run under the magic two-hour mark, but fell a bit towards the end so it didn’t work out this time.

Kipchoge crossed the 10 kilometer mark in 28.23 minutes. The half marathon was completed in 59.51 minutes.

Own

Kipchoge ran completely alone for a distance of 25 kilometers. Then it gets worse to maintain the mileage needed to run faster than two hours.

The eight fastest men’s marathons of all time have all been run in Berlin.

The women’s class was won by Tigist Assefa from Ethiopia. She recorded 2.15.37, and this is the third fastest time in the world on the women’s side of all time. Brigid Kosgei holds the world record with 2.14.04.
