Fiala wears a dark ring. He takes care of his health and sleep, the spokesperson explained

Although the prime minister has been wearing a wedding ring since 1992, when he married his wife Jana, the black ring has been on his hand for less than a month. People first saw it in photos on June 20, when the ODS chairman participated in the national conference Our security is not an ordinary matter, where the government discussed the impact of the war in Ukraine, ensuring the defense of the Czech Republic and the risks of artificial intelligence.

“It’s no secret that the Prime Minister loves new technology. His new ring, which he’s been wearing for the past few days, connects to his phone and measures some of his health data. For example, how he sleeps,” said government spokesman Václav Smolka.

According to him, the prime minister wore an Oura Ring ring. It started many years ago as a fashion accessory with some smart functions, such as measuring body temperature or heart rate during sleep or exercise. The company started selling the first version of the smart ring in 2015.

It can be purchased for less than eight thousand crowns. The ring connected to the mobile app can estimate how long a person spends in which part of sleep (light sleep, REM, deep sleep).

“For example, when your HRV (heart rate variability) experiences major changes or your sleep quality changes, you will be asked to rest. Other times, on the contrary, it will let you know that you are ready to actually enter your body,” the company said.

The Prime Minister’s ring is not the only accessory that has caught the public’s attention in recent weeks. At a press conference in May, when the government presented its pension consolidation and reform package, the addition of Helena Horská attracted attention. A member of the Government’s National Economic Council and Chief Economist of Raiffeisenbank wore a pendant shaped like the chemical formula LSD around his neck.

According to Horská, it shouldn’t be a symbol, it just goes with the clothing choice. “Designers like the shape because it’s not round. But I admit that the conference took a long time and I understand that some people prefer to talk about details,” said the economist.
