Hours earlier, the Polish government had taken another step in the war reparations issue from Germany. Polish Foreign Minister Zbigniew Rau signed a diplomatic memorandum on resolving the consequences of German aggression and occupation in 1939-1945. The German government rejected Poland’s reparations claim, reiterating that at a legal level the matter was closed by the “two plus four agreement” made in 1990 between Germany, the GDR and the victorious powers the United States, the Soviet Union, Great Britain and France.

Jarosław Kaczyński, head of the PIS, sharpened his tone towards Germany shortly before the visit of the head of German diplomacy to Warsaw. On Sunday, he accused Berlin of seeking “German dominance” in the European Union.
