Karpe was a big winner during the Spellemann awards and won almost every category it was nominated for. The jubilee night was crowned with an award as Spellemann of the Year.
The duo consisting of Chirag Rashmikant Patel and Magdi Omar Ytreeide Abdelmaguid from Oslo also won Release of the Year awards with the album “Omar Sheriff” and Song of the Year for “PAF.no” from the record.
Additionally, the duo won awards for Songwriter of the Year, Lyricist of the Year, and Pop Artist of the Year.
Aksel Axxe Carlson and Thomas Meyer Kongshavn won the producers category for their work on “Omar Sheriff”.
– That’s very good
Along with director Kavar Singh, Karpe was also nominated for Music Video of the Year for the song “PAF.no”, but lost here to Ramón’s “Så klart det gyart vondt”.
Rap veterans get the most nominations for this year’s award, which honors music from the past year.
– That’s very good. It’s been 50 years with Spellemann, we’re a Norwegian-speaking band – here are the trophies, the promises we can get, of course it’s great, Chirag Rashmikant Patel told NTB when the nominees were announced in early March.
Most successful of all time
Karpe was founded in 2000 as Karpe Diem and over the years has earned its status as Norway’s most popular rap group. The duo have released five albums and won a number of awards, including seven Spellemann awards prior to this year’s awards. In 2010, they won the Player of the Year award for the first time.
Saturday’s splash of awards means that Karpe, along with the Oslo Philharmonic, are the all-time winners in the Spellemann context, with 13 awards. Leif Ove Andsnes and a-ha followed with eleven and nine awards respectively.
