Tennis player Barbora Krejčíková advanced to the last 16 of the tournament in Madrid. In round 3, she defeated Wang Si-yü from China 6:4, 6:1 to become the last Czech player in singles. Marie Bouzková, on the other hand, is retiring and will not repeat her participation in last year’s eight finals. She lost to Jessica Pegula from AS 4:6, 6:7.
Krejčíková, competing in singles for the first time in Madrid, needed less than an hour and a half to progress to the last 16. In the second set, she narrowly beat the Chinese woman with a “walnut”, as she did in the previous round with Danka Koviničová. But in the end, he didn’t serve the duel and closed it only in the next game when serving his opponent.
Czech champion Roland Garros from 2021 will face Croatian Petra Martičová for a place in the quarter-finals. They have never played against each other on the WTA circuit.
Twenty-four-year-old Bouzková drew with the world number three, but her opponent always caught on at the crucial moments. In the opening set, the Czech saved five set points in 3:5, but in the end Pegula won the set 6:4 after 70 minutes.
Also in the second round, Bouzková was able to delay the match when he avoided two match points in the tenth game and forced a tie-break. However, in it, the American had converted his fourth match point and won it 7:2.
