Kremlin: – Follow closely

In light of British Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s visits to Sweden and Finland, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has stated that the Kremlin is closely monitoring everything that could affect the NATO configuration near Russia’s borders.

This was reported by the Reuters news agency.

Discuss security issues

Johnson visited neighboring Norway to discuss the war in Ukraine and security cooperation in Europe, according to NTB.

The Swedish government has stated in a press release that the British Prime Minister will meet Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson at the Harpsund manor on Wednesday.

Aftonbladet wrote before the visit that the leaders would also sign an agreement on enhancing defense and security cooperation between Sweden and the UK, without official confirmation.

– We support the democratic right of all countries to decide on issues such as NATO membership. “We understand the position of Sweden and Finland, and that is why the Prime Minister will address this comprehensive security issue,” Johnson’s spokesman said ahead of the visit.

signed agreement

It is hoped that both Sweden and Finland will make a decision on whether to sign up to join the NATO military alliance during the month.

Johnson himself said Wednesday afternoon that he had agreed new agreements with Sweden and Finland to strengthen European security, and pledged to support the armed forces of both countries if they were to come under attack.

“We are steadfast and resolute in supporting Sweden and Finland, and the signing of this security declaration is a symbol of the lasting guarantees between our countries,” he said.

– This is not a temporary solution, but a long-term commitment to military relations and global stability, he added.
