Liverpool beat Manchester City for touchdown record – Haaland’s goal in a 1-1 tie

Haaland sent the home team ahead in the first half. At the same time, he became the fastest player to score 50 goals in the Premier League. Former striker Andy Cole scored 50 goals in 65 games.

The goal looked to be the difference between the two teams in Saturday’s big clash, but ten minutes from the end, Trent Alexander-Arnold equalized and saved the points.

With this win, City equaled Sunderland’s 131-year record for the most consecutive home wins by a club in England’s top division in any competition. City’s record stopped at 23 in that match.

City is thus still one point behind Liverpool at the top of the standings. Haaland missed Norway’s match against Scotland last weekend, but is ready for Saturday’s series finale.

Haaland’s goal

Before Saturday’s clash, Liverpool had won just one of their last 14 away games against City in the series. Five times it ended with points being shared, while City won eight games.

City face Tottenham in the next round, while Liverpool face Fulham.

Each team created good chances after more than 20 minutes. First up was Darwin Núñez for the away side, but Ederson made a great save. After that, Jéremy Doku moved and cut towards Haaland, who didn’t get the ball in time, and Liverpool cleared it.

After 26 minutes, Norway’s goal machine was successful. After a poor start by Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson, Nathan Aké was dribbled by Liverpool players and punched the ball towards Haaland. Alone with Alisson, the Norwegian was at his best and put the home team ahead.

The captain was criticized

Norway national team manager Ståle Solbakken believes that captain Virgil van Dijk could and should have avoided such a situation.

– Van Dijk sleeps there. It doesn’t seem like a big mistake, but it was a bad mistake, concluded Solbakken at the Viaplay studio.

With just over ten minutes remaining, Haaland had a great chance to double the lead, but Alisson made a brilliant save. This proved crucial, as Liverpool immediately attacked and equalised. Alexander-Arnold received the ball from 16 meters and placed it beautifully in the corner to wild cheers.

City tried hard to score the winning goal at home, but failed to score several times. Haaland had another good chance right on the edge of the goal, but the ball went wide.
