Liz Cheney replied loudly – Dagsavisen

Liz Cheney has spoken emphatically after Kevin McCarthy, the Republican leader in the House of Representatives, stated that it might be relevant to cut aid to Ukraine if the party wins a majority in the by-election.

Midterm elections in the United States will be held on November 8.

Cheney makes criticism of his party mates during an event at Harvard University, writes Newsweek.

– Embarrassing

According to the news magazine, a student asked him if the United States had the right to promote and support democracy around the world while democracy was crumbling in its own country.

Cheney replied that the United States should do whatever it takes to support the Ukrainian people as they fight against the Russian invasion.

Then he added:

– I don’t know if I can say I was surprised, but I think it’s a shame that Minority Leader McCarthy said that if the Republicans regained a majority, we would not continue to support Ukraine.

McCarty told Punchbowl News the same day that Republicans would not write a “blank check” to Ukraine if they secured a majority in the midterm elections.

In doing so, he pointed out that it is not certain that the US will provide the same amount of aid to Ukraine in the future. McCarthy refers to the economic situation in the United States and that people are struggling as a result of the recession.

– Front line

To the students, Cheney stressed that the war between Russia and Ukraine showed that democracy must be better armed than tyranny to succeed.

– Ukraine is at the forefront of the struggle for freedom. And the world, not just America, has an obligation to make sure Ukraine wins, Cheney said.

NTB referred to the case in the newspaper on Friday Financial timewhere it appears that the leader of the minority Republican Party in the Senate, Mitch McConnell, also disagrees with his party mate McCarthy.

– The Biden administration and our allies must do more to provide Ukraine with the tools it needs to deter Russian aggression, McConnell said on Friday.

According to NTB, the US by a large margin is the largest contributor to Ukraine. Since Russia’s invasion in February, the country has contributed more than 52 billion euros in military, financial and humanitarian aid, according to a report description from the German Institute for the World Economy (IFW).
