After a quiet few years, during which the members of El Cuero have made their name in some of Norway’s biggest bands such as Kvelertak, Spidergawd and The Dogs, the band has now shared the news that they are finally back with new music. You can listen to the first single in six years exclusively here on Musikknyheter.no, before it’s released everywhere on November 17th. Save the song first Here!

El Cuero is entering its 18th year as a band. They have 7 studio albums under their belt, and they have repeatedly received standing ovations and overwhelming criticism for their releases from the country’s music press. Over the years, El Cuero has been known for its sparkling concerts, which attract audiences at festivals and concert venues across the country. Extensive concert activity earned the band an early reputation as one of the country’s top live bands.

El Cuero’s eighth album “… are we done yet?” will be released on March 8, 2024.

On the album’s first single “Dream It Up Again”, songwriter Brynjar Takle Ohr showcases his best pop rock melancholy. The band’s flair for great melodies is also evident here, and the vocal harmonies on the chorus are classic El Cuero.

– I originally thought of “Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around” with Tom Petty and Stevie Nicks in mind when I started working on this, but the song quickly evolved in a completely different direction. “Producer Per Borten ended up taking the production more in the direction of 70s ELO,” says Brynjar.

– “Dream it Up Again” can also be seen as looking back at the past. When you play in a band that has been active for almost 20 years, it’s clear that you have a ton of stories, memories and experiences behind you. Not dealing with one’s own history will lead to dysfunction, and focusing too much on the past is also wrong. The best song is always the next song. This is an important driving force for all of us who make music, says Brynjar Takle Ohr.

“…Are we done yet?” recorded by Per Borten (Spidergawd) at his Studio Sørgården in spring 2021.

El Cuero, hailing from Kristiansund and the rock section of Americana, is one of the main promoters of guitar-driven rock music in Norway. Songs like “Hate Will Get Us Nowhere” and “A Glimmer Of Hope” are live classics. The band ranked high on VG’s top 40 list, and their album “From Mountain To Sand” from 2011 placed a very strong No. 3, beaten only by Lady Gaga and Adele. They have also had several singles on the NRK radio charts, where “A Deadline In Your Soul” with Tuva Syvertsen won in 2013. This year they were also special guests for Neil Young at Oslo Spektrum.

El Cuero is:
Brynjar Takle Ohr (guitar/vocals)
Håvard Takle Ohr (drums/vocals)
